Green cited President Trump’s July 14 tweets criticizing freshman Congresswomen Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), Ilhan Omar (D-MN), Rashida Tlaib (D-MI), and Ayanna Pressley (D-MA). Green specifically mentioned Trump saying “go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested places from which they came.”
All but one of the four were born in America.
A report by The Hill stated that House Democrats are conflicted on whether impeachment at this point is a smart political move.
Green’s office sent a statement to The Texan, saying, “I will read articles of impeachment on the Floor of the U.S. House of Representatives before the close of the business today. To condemn a racist President is not enough, we must impeach him. This will be a defining vote. The world is watching, and history will judge us all.”
It should be noted that Green originally called for Trump’s impeachment in May 2017 and filed his first impeachment resolution against the president in October 2017.
Last month, The Texan reached out to Texas federal lawmakers to find out where they stand on impeaching the president following the results of the Mueller report, which found no evidence of collusion, but was less definitive on whether or not the president engaged in obstruction of justice.
Their answers can be found in the table below.

Name | Position | Explanation |
---|---|---|
John Cornyn (R-TX) | Oppose | "Democrats need to stop talking about impeachment and start working with Republicans on areas where we agree." |
Ted Cruz (R-TX) | Oppose | "The Russia investigation is over. After 2 years of Dem & media hysteria, after millions of dollars, after 2800 subpoenas, the Mueller Report found NO collusion." |
Louie Gohmert (R-TX-1) | Oppose | "Congressman Gohmert does not support impeachment." |
Dan Crenshaw (R-TX-2) | Oppose | "Still no Russian collusion and no conclusion on obstruction. But the President’s adversaries will continue to move the goalposts and push impeachment, ignoring what the American people really want: good governance." |
Van Taylor (R-TX-3) | N/A | No response |
John Ratcliffe (R-TX-4) | Oppose | "Mueller said there was no collusion, but Democrats are still looking for some foothold to start impeachment proceedings." |
Lance Gooden (R-TX-5) | Oppose | “Democrats will pay the price for impeachment at the ballot box in 2020.” |
Ron Wright (R-TX-6) | Oppose | “The Mueller report yielded nothing for the Presidents enemies. Democrats were banking on finding reasons to impeach Trump and there was nothing there. It’s time for Democrats to move on, work with the President and for the American people. Not liking Donald Trump is not a reason to obstruct his presidency.” |
Lizzie Fletcher (D-TX-7) | N/A | No response |
Kevin Brady (R-TX-8) | Oppose | "Special Counsel Robert Mueller made a definitive statement about his report’s conclusion – no collusion, none, between Russia and the Trump campaign." |
Al Green (D-TX-9) | Support | “I became the first person to call for the impeachment of President Trump from the Floor of the House of Representatives on May 17, 2017. I stand now where I stood then. The President has committed high crimes and misdemeanors. He will not be prosecuted by the Justice Department, leaving the House of Representatives as the sole venue to bring the President to justice.” |
Michael McCaul (R-TX-10) | N/A | No response |
Mike Conaway (R-TX-11) | N/A | No response |
Kay Granger (R-TX-12) | N/A | No response |
Mac Thornberry (R-TX-13) | Oppose | "For the sake of the country, all Americans should also be glad that the Special Counsel found no conspiracy or collusion with Russia to influence the 2016 campaign. Both he and the Attorney General failed to find sufficient evidence for an obstruction of justice charge as well." |
Randy Weber (R-TX-14) | Oppose | "Rep. Weber does not support impeachment for Trump." |
Vicente González (D-TX-15) | Oppose | “I believe the best way to impeach Trump is to defeat him in 2020.” |
Veronica Escobar (D-TX-16) | N/A | No response |
Bill Flores (R-TX-17) | N/A | "Special Counsel Mueller’s investigation spent tens of millions of taxpayer dollars, issued thousands of subpoenas, interviewed hundreds of witnesses, reviewed hundreds of thousands of pages of documents and generated numerous indictments; however, it found no collusion, cooperation or coordination between the Trump campaign and Russian interests; and it found insufficient evidence of obstruction of justice by President Trump to justify charges." |
Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX-18) | N/A | No response |
Jodey Arrington (R-TX-19) | Oppose | "No collusion, no obstruction, no surprise. After almost two years, unlimited investigatory authority, and millions of taxpayer dollars spent, the Special Counsel has confirmed that there was no collusion between President Trump and the Russian government to influence the outcome of the 2016 election." |
Joaquin Castro (D-TX-20) | Support | "It’s time for Congress to open an impeachment inquiry. There is political risk in doing so, but there’s a greater risk to our country in doing nothing." |
Chip Roy (R-TX-21) | N/A | No response |
Pete Olson (R-TX-22) | Oppose | "I’m glad the Mueller investigation is finally complete. After wasting 25 million dollars of taxpayer money, the American people finally know the truth - there was NO collusion between President Trump & Russia & NO obstruction." |
Will Hurd (R-TX-23) | Oppose | “Two years ago, the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence found no collusion or conspiracy between Russia and President Trump and his campaign. For two years Mr. Mueller conducted an independent investigation that cost $25 million, employed 19 attorneys and 40 FBI agents, issued 2,800 subpoenas, executed nearly 500 search warrants and interviewed approximately 500 witnesses – and came to the same conclusion that there was no collusion." |
Kenny Marchant (R-TX-24) | N/A | No response |
Roger Williams (R-TX-25) | Oppose | "The Congressman does not support the impeachment of President Trump." |
Michael Burgess (R-TX-26) | Oppose | "Dr. Burgess does not support impeachment of President Trump." |
Michael Cloud (R-TX-27) | Oppose | "Congressman Cloud does not support impeachment." |
Henry Cuellar (D-TX-28) | N/A | No response |
Sylvia Garcia (D-TX-29) | N/A | No response |
Eddie Bernice Johnson (D-TX-30) | N/A | No response |
John Carter (R-TX-31) | Oppose | "Rep. Carter does not support impeachment. " |
Colin Allred (D-TX-32) | N/A | No response |
Marc Veasey (D-TX-33) | N/A | No response |
Filemon Vela (D-TX-34) | N/A | No response |
Lloyd Doggett (D-TX-35) | Support | "It’s as if President Trump is saying, “Russia are you listening?” Except now he is inviting any foreign enemy to provide dirt on his political enemies. We cannot standby as Trump, again, solicits foreign interference into our democracy. Time to start the impeachment inquiry." |
Brian Babin (R-TX-36) | Oppose | Mueller Report certifies what the Vice President, the President, and most ppl have said all along: NO COLLUSION. Far too much time/money has been wasted chasing this hoax & I’m glad it’s over. We deserve to know how this false narrative & corrupt use of FBI/DOJ resources started." |
