Wu claimed that he “didn’t wish anyone ill.”
“I wish President Trump a full recovery. I’ll pray for him and send him healing thoughts,” tweeted Wu, quickly adding, “The greatest recovery the nation has ever seen.”
Hundreds of comments were made in response to Wu’s tweets, many of which criticized the Democratic representative for his deleted post.
State Reps. Matt Schaefer (R-Tyler), Jared Patterson (R-Frisco), and Mayes Middleton (R- Wallisville) were among some of Wu’s fellow legislators to criticize him for the post.
Wu responded to a number of criticisms reiterating that he was concerned about the president’s health and hoped for his recovery.
“Welcome MAGA Troopers. Enjoy the follows,” Wu also tweeted.
Wu’s tweets on Friday evening were not his first referring to Trump’s health.
After the president announced the positive test results that he and First Lady Melania Trump received late Thursday night, Wu tweeted, “Karma is not a lady to be messed with,” followed by a chart of coronavirus-related deaths in the United States by age.
Quoting an article regarding Trump’s results, Wu sarcastically remarked, “How is this possible? Coronavirus disappeared in July when it got warm.”
On Friday afternoon, Wu claimed that, “Currently, we are the only nation in the world that is actually safer with our commander in chief incapacitated.”
He also retweeted Iranian-American commentator Reza Aslan’s statement that, “I hope Trump has a speedy recovery and lives a long life… so that he can be humiliated at the polls, see his empire of greed crumble, be sued for rape, arrested for tax fraud, and watch as history condemns him as the worst president – the worst human – in American history.”
“If we’re taking extraordinary efforts to save Trump… why weren’t these efforts used to save more than 200,000 Americans?” wrote Wu.
Wu did not reply to a request for comment.
