List of the Runoff Endorsements by Three Top GOP Figures
In the May 24 primary runoff, top-level political figures have waded into lower races, occasionally falling on opposing sides.
Former President Donald Trump continues to be the most sought-after endorsement in GOP politics. Often at the behest of Lt. Governor Dan Patrick, Trump has endorsed candidates in 33 races across the state, only five of which were forced to runoffs.
Cruz and Abbott have been more prolific in their runoff endorsements, wading into at least 10 contests each. The pair, who’ve supported each other in their previous races, fell on different sides of multiple races this time around — with Cruz’s point of emphasis being placed on the issue of school choice.
Only one Texas race pits Cruz and Trump on opposing sides, and it’s a local-level contest. In the race for Tarrant County District Attorney, Trump endorsed Phil Sorrells while Cruz supports state Rep. Matt Krause (R-Fort Worth).
Early voting began on Monday this week and ends on Friday, May 20. Election Day is next Tuesday.
